Nearly 500 children starved to death in Sudan in four months of war

"There are children who die of starvation, when this could have been avoided," said the organization Save the Children, which cannot operate in the midst of the fighting, so the situation could worsen.

At least 498 children "and probably hundreds more" died of starvation in these four months of war in Sudan between the Army and paramilitary forces, said the NGO Save the Children.

In a country where even before the conflict one in three people suffered from hunger, "there are children dying of starvation, when this could have been prevented," said Arif Noor, Save the Children's director for Sudan, in a statement.

"At least 498 children in Sudan and probably hundreds more, including two dozen who were in a state orphanage, have starved to death" since the regular army and paramilitaries began fighting for power in mid-April, the official added.
